WHAT:
Two free workshops at UCLA’s Jonsson Cancer Center will teach families and friends how to manage the challenges of caring for brain tumor patients at home.
The sessions will highlight critical care-giving skills including home safety, legal and insurance issues, how to help a brain tumor patient manage disease symptoms and side effects of treatment, and how to communicate effectively with the patient’s medical team.
The panel of speakers will include a neuro-oncologist, a neuropsychologist, an attorney specializing in legal and insurance issues, a physical therapist, a nurse, and clinical social workers.
Sponsors of the sessions are the UCLA Neuro-Oncology Program at the Jonsson Cancer Center, the National Brain Tumor Foundation, Home Care Companions, the UCLA Oncology Center, and the departments of Radiation Oncology and Social Work at the UCLA School of Medicine.
