No money to go to Disney World? Tired of the same old, same old? Susan Williams, editor of “Summer Fun,” suggests kids and their parents get out and about with these different day trip ideas:
Visit a natural history museum to learn about creatures large and small. (Most are full of cool dinosaur skeletons!) Or, use the Internet to find museums in your area or take a virtual tour.
Go to an arboretum, which is a special kind of nature preserve that grows beautiful and unusual trees. Your local chamber of commerce or state department of tourism can direct you to the nearest one. Bring some bark-rubbing supplies (plain paper and crayons) for some extra fun.
Root for the home team. Go to a major- or minor-league baseball game. You can yell from the stands, eat hot dogs and spill soda. Now that’s something to cheer about!
See a planetarium show. Many colleges, high schools and museums have specially designed rooms where exciting and educational shows about the stars and planets are staged. Most planetariums are also air conditioned for a cool relief.
